Be Watchful Of Your 3G Internet Usage
Friday January 9, 2009
Many 3G Internet usage plans do not include a lot of data, yet they charge extremely high excess usage fees. People who are not used to the benefits of 3G Web browsing will often drastically underestimate the amount of data that they are likely to use in a month. This will often lead to a few months of excess data charges as they resist upgrading to a higher usage plan.
Essentially, if you find you are being charged excess data on a regular basis, then you should consider upgrading your plan. Your ability to do this will depend on the network you are with, however. There are many 3G networks in Australia who provide very limited options for 3G Internet access on a mobile phone. Some only offer a low use and a high use option - with nothing in between. This is why it is better to figure out your real usage before you choose a mobile Internet plan.
If you find yourself stuck with a plan that gives you far less data than you need, be sure to set up your 3G mobile phones to use wireless networks whenever possible. Also, watch your data usage and moderate your browsing and checking of emails.
3G in Australia is still quite expensive in terms of wireless Internet access, mostly due to excess usage fees, but some providers are offering solutions to this problem. 3G Internet plans that shape speeds instead of charging excess usage fees are becoming more common, so be sure to look for these plans if you find it difficult to control your 3G Internet usage.
